Papua New Guinea is looking to maintain their edge over the Netherlands in the first of two World Cricket League one-day matches in Amsterdam today.

The Barramundi's created history last week, beating the Dutch by five wickets in their first ever international four-day match as part of the Intercontinental Cup.

Focus now switches back to the limited overs game, with the top two teams in World Cricket League to advance to the 2018 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

Head coach Dipak Patel is hoping his team can continue their momentum.

"It's not very often that our guys are in this part of the world playing cricket - this is the first time they've ever ventured outside Australasia so very pleasing to be able to come to the Netherlands and get a result and it bodes well for us. We can move forward and feel confident that we can compete with the rest of the countries that we are coming up against".

PNG will also play the Netherlands on Wednesday.
