Nicole Beck has been named as Australia's flag bearer for the opening ceremony at next month's Pacific Games in Port Moresby.

27 year old Beck will captain the rugby sevens team in PNG and is one of just two members of the Australian team that featured in the recent World Sevens Series.

She says being named flagbearer is a big surprise and a huge honour.

Also among the 12-strong squad is 19-year-old Brooke Anderson, who was co-captain of the Australian side that won last year's inaugural sevens gold medal at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing.

More than 40 Australian athletes are set to participate in sailing, rugby sevens, weightlifting and taekwondo, with Australia and New Zealand contesting the Games for the first time.
