A suspended Papua New Guinea MP, Ronnie Knight, has obtained an interim stay order against a Leadership Tribunal decision recommending he be dismissed from office.

The newspaper, The National, reports that the order was issued by acting judge Leka Nablu at the Waigani National Court last Friday.

The court stayed the tribunal's decision, pending Mr Knight's application for a judicial review to quash the decision, which is due to be heard on the 9th of June.

In March, the Leadership Tribunal found Mr Knight, who is the MP for Manus, guilty on four counts of misconduct in office, relating to allegations of misappropriation of public money and failure to disclose interests when negotiating the purchase of a new vessel.
