Four men charged over Fiji police chief attack

Four men have appeared in court in Fiji over an attack on the country's Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald last week.

]FBC News reports the men, all in their twenties, have been charged with six counts of aggravated robbery, one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm and theft of a motor vehicle.

The police chief was injured while trying to stop the robbery at a restaurant and wine shop in the capital Suva.

The broadcaster reports the men's lawyers have asked for a medical check-up of the men because of claims of police brutality.

The men have been remanded at a police station in Suva.
