The Cook Islands National Council of Women has launched a campaign in an effort to eliminate violence against women in the country.
The campaign will begin by meeting with community and island leaders and their organisations to give publicity to a recent Cook Islands Family Health and Safety report.
That report found that nearly a third of women in the country have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lives.
The Cook Islands News says the meetings are hoped to give wide publicity to the report's findings, and drive home the message to community leaders to eliminate domestic violence.
