Agreement signed to end French Polynesia nurses strike

A memorandum of understanding has been signed in French Polynesia to end a strike by independent nurses that lasted two weeks.

The nurses went on strike on the 27th of April complaining that they had not been paid for several months, with their union saying many had been hit by hardship as a result.

In a statement, the government says the memorandum of understanding was signed by the health minister, Patrick Howell, the director of the Provident Fund, and the president of union of independent nurses, Jerome Fernandez.

It did not say what conditions had been agreed to.
