The European Union has proposed a three-year pause in negotiations on the Economic Partnership Agreement.

FBC reports that the Fiji Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade, Shaheen Ali, says there has been very little progress in negotiations since October 2013.

The EU's Pacific Ambassador, Andrew Jacobs, told FBC the negotiations have not been easy and an agreement may take a while yet.

He says key areas of dispute include the conservation of fish stocks in the Pacific.
