The children of Mele kindergarten school on the island of Efate in Vanuatu were treated to a fun day of activities today, as part of efforts to help them recover mentally from the impacts of Cyclone Pam.

The cyclone ripped through the country over a month ago, destroying homes and infrastructure, leaving 11 dead and affecting the majority of the 252,800-strong population.
Joined by their parents, the children walked and danced through their village, before returning to school for more activities and to hear customary stories by the elders of the village.
Mele kindergarten teacher, Aline Mete, says she noticed a change in her students following the cyclone and wanted to help them forget.
"And it really affected the children and the way they're performing inside the classrooms so I've decided to organise this day for the kids so that we can help them, shape their mentality, shape their attitudes."
The children also visited the part of their village that was deluged by mud after the cyclone.
