Sport: O-League rivals square off again

10:26 am on 18 April 2015

Oceanic football rivals Auckland City and Amicale FC go head to head this evening in a rematch of last year's Champions League grand final.

Auckland were upset by the Vanuatu club in last year's group phase but turned the tables in the O-League decider, and again in November's President's Cup.

Both teams have maximum points in Group B but a draw in Suva would be enough for Auckland to finish top thanks to a superior goal difference.

But captain Ivan Vicelich says they don't intend to play it safe.

"That's another option for us but we know we've got to go out there to win the game. I think the draw is that we could be playing Amicale two times in a row, with the top [and] second finish so we just really need to focus on ourselves and try and get the win. We're both vying for top position in the table so there's a lot at stake but we're really happy with the preparation that we've done and the way the games' are playing for us so fingers crossed we can get another good result".

Meanwhile hosts Ba are in the box seat to advance from Group A with a win or draw against Tahiti's AS Pirae.

Even a loss will likely see them advance to the semi finals, depending on the result between FC Gaitcha and Lupe Ole Soaga.
