Cooks' Norman lays blame over split vote

4:41 pm on 3 April 2015

A former MP in the Cook Islands, Norman George, has accused the One Cook Islands Movement of wrecking the Democratic Party.

This week the governing Cook Islands Party easily won the Vaipae-Tautu by-election, ensuring it has the numbers to remain in power.

Mr George blames the One Cook Islands Movement for putting up a candidate, saying without Amiria Davey in the mix, the Democrats' Teinakore Ioane would have got enough support.

The Cook Islands News reports him as saying that given the actions of the third party, the result was predictable.
