7:36 am on 30 March 2015

Fiji made it back to back victories on the World Sevens Series after beating defending champions New Zealand 33-19 in the Hong Kong final.

The result lifts them to second in the overall standings on 108 points, just two points behind South Africa with three legs remaining.

Head coach Ben Ryan praised his players performance while skipper Osea Kolinisau dedicated the victory to Fiji Warriors prop Iosefo Bele Tabalala, who died in his sleep last weekend.

Samoa showed significant improvement, to finish fourth and move up to ninth in the overall standings.

Meanwhile Papua New Guinea and Tonga missed out in the Hong Kong qualifier with Russia beating Zimbabwe in the final to seal core team status for next season's World Series.
