Sport: Fijiana sevens coach backs hard-line on discipline

12:05 pm on 10 March 2015

The Fiji women's sevens coach believes his hard-line message about team discipline is getting through despite two more players being dropped.

Iliesa Tanivula dropped two senior players for last month's Sao Paulo Sevens in Brazil because of off-field matters.

Both players have been welcomed back into the fold for this weekend's tournament in Atlanta but two more players have been left behind for new indiscretions.

Tanivula doesn't believe discipline will become an ongoing issue in the team.

"Disappointed to miss another two of my senior players and I guess we've just got to take a fair deal with the girls and that was the call. So a couple of players come in and

another two going out due to disciplinary reasons. You've got to be fair to the whole squad - they've seen it happen to a couple of senior players [so] I don't see why not have discipline right across the board and just deal with them fairly. We've done that and hopefully we will get the message across".

The Fijiana are eighth in the women's series standings after two rounds and play Australia, France and Spain in pool play this weekend.
