Samoa search for police commissioner could take months

7:28 am on 4 March 2015

Samoa's search for a new police commissioner could take longer than expected with possible changes to the selection criteria in the offing.

The cabinet has decided assistant commissioners will rotate in an acting role for the next four months.

Our correspondent in Apia says the Public Service Commission wants to open up the criteria for selection to include applicants with no police work experience.

He says the Police Ministry is looking for support to oppose the move which is expected to prolong the process of appointing a new commissioner.
