Demolition of the old Rainmaker Hotel in Utulei in American Samoa has got the green light after federal environmental and historical requirements were met.

The US Department of Interior has given $250,000 US dollars for the demolition work.

Built in the 1960s the government owned luxury hotel had 250 rooms and was one of the premier hotels in the South Pacific region.

There have been countless schemes to try and refurbish the hotel but it has not been used in nearly 20 years.
