Tonga's Eua in prolonged drought

8:24 pm on 19 February 2015

A prolonged drought in Tonga's Eua has forced the people on the island to ration their water use.

Radio Tonga's correspondent on the island, Setaleki Tukia, says the local jail has had to borrow water from the fire department.

He says many areas on the island are affected.

The general manager of the Tonga Water Board, Saimone Helu, says the board is managing the supply issue well.

He says water shortages are common to all islands in Tonga but people have to use what is available wisely.
