A charge laid last month against the chairman of Fiji's Media Industry Development Authority, Ashwin Raj, has been withdrawn by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Fiji media reports say the charge of annoying a person was dropped last week when the case was due to go to court.

The Director of Public Prosecutions found there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the matter.

The incident had been confirmed by the Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald after Mr Raj had described reports of the charge as malicious allegations.

The Commissioner also said Mr Raj had made an official complaint against him, adding that the matter had been referred to the Internal Affairs Department for investigation.
