There are reports in Tonga of another volcanic eruption.

Radio Tonga says pilots for the domestic airline Real Tonga have reported a white cloud rising out of the sea to about 600 metres, south west of the Vava'u group.

It reports the National Volcano Advisory Center saying there is no other sign of volcanic debris or of a strong gas smell.

An earlier eruption, that began late last year and lasted about five weeks, created new land in the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai region, which is about 65 kilometres northwest of the capital, Nuku'alofa.
