CNMI's Fitial due back in court on refiled charges

The former governor of the Northern Marianas, Benigno Fitial, is expected back in court soon after the reinstatement of four of the 13 criminal charges originally filed against him.

Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman has granted Office of the Public Auditor lawyer George Hasselback's motion to reconsider his dismissal of the criminal charges against Mr Fitial.

In November the Court had dismissed all the charges.

The four counts refer to alleged criminal activity associated with the police escort provided to former attorney general Edward Buckingham in August 2012 that shielded him from being served a penal summons.
