8:51 pm on 3 February 2015

Three people have been killed in fierce tribal fighting in the Henganofi district of Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands Province.

The Provincial Police Chief, John Kale, says a police mobile squad unit has been deployed to the area to contain the violence, which has also destroyed many houses and food gardens.

The Post Courier reports the casualties were all from the same tribe, and the local MP is travelling to the district to call on his people to lay down their arms and live in peace and harmony.
