8:48 pm on 29 January 2015

The National Weather Service in American Samoa has issued a wind advisory for Manu'a.

There'll also be heavy rains dumped by a monsoonal trough lying over the Samoa group.

The islands of Tutuila and Aunu'u should begin feeling the effects within the next 24 hours.

Meteorologist Carol Maafala Baqui says residents should brace for the windy and wet weather which will remain for the next few days.

"For Pago side we should be expecting rainfall and possible thunderstorms moving over Pago tonight into tomorrow. We're anticipating rains to pick up 25-40 miles per hour and with gusts that will likely reach 55 miles per hour."

Two cruise ships, which were scheduled to arrive Friday and Saturday, the first ones for the year have cancelled their visits because of the stormy weather over the Samoa group.
