Xmas flood relief for PNG district

3:33 pm on 30 December 2014

Residents in the Dei District of Papua New Guinea's Western Highlands Province were sent relief supplies just before Christmas to help them cope with the aftermath of huge floods last March.

The Han River overflowed in March destroying food gardens, cash crops, houses and livestock and people are still struggling to re-establish their gardens and livelihoods.

The Post Courier reports that the local MP, Westley Nukundi, organised relief food parcels, consisting of 210 rice bags, 170 cartons of canned fish and 170 cartons of two-litre cooking oil.

The food was paid for by the National Gaming Control Board.
