PNG PM opens road link in Middle Ramu

3:29 pm on 22 December 2014

Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister has officially opened a new road linking the Middle Ramu district of Madang Province through to Madang town.

At the official launch in Middle Ramu, Peter O'Neill urged the local Simbai people to make good use of the infrastructure to improve lives in their community.

He said people should use the road to do business and carry goods, find work, access healthcare and visit family.

The O'Neill government has directed significant budgetary focus to building infrastructure such as roads, part of a drive to create economic opportunities for the country's mainly rural population.

Mr O'Neill also promised the Simbai people that he will send works engineers to carry out a study on the Ramu River in order to build a bridge.

After the road opening, the Prime Minister went to Simbai to officially open new classrooms in the presence of thousands of local people.
