The Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has given assurances the performance of ministers in his government will be strictly supervised by Cabinet.

He was responding to concerns over the appointment of Northwest Guadalcanal MP Bodo Dettke as Minister for Forestry in light of his involvement in the logging industry.

Mr Sogavare says he understands the concerns raised but he says each minister of the Democratic Coalition for Change government will carry out their ministerial duties under strict supervision.

He says there is a mechanism in place to address situations where a minister fails to carry out his or her duty.

The Prime Minister says he understands Mr Dettke is someone who cannot be bought and is conscious of doing the right thing to advance national interests.
