The Solomon Islands has recorded its highest ever voter turnout at nearly 90 percent.

The chief electoral officer, Polycarp Haununu, described the 89.93% turnout in last month's election as a great success for the Electoral Commissioner and the country as a whole.
He says in the 2010 election turnout was just over 50 percent although that figure does not take into account the multiple registrations and other errors on the roll before biometric voter registration was introduced.
Mr Haununu says only six in every one thousand votes were rejected and he says this is half of the figure in New Zealand's recent election.
He says it shows staff in the field were highly successful in explaining the voting process and how to correctly mark a ballot paper.
Mr Haununu says the figures represent a significant milestone in the management of clean and fair elections in Solomon Islands.
