An area at the international airport in the Northern Marianas has been designated as an isolation facility for communicable diseases such as the Ebola virus, should it reach the Commonwealth.

The Ebola virus outbreak prompted the Ports Authority and the Healthcare Corporation to identify such a space at the main airport in Saipan.

The area would allow an enclosed space to be set up for a screening process by health officials.

The Ports Authority board recently approved a supplemental budget of $44,880 for the isolation facility.
