Tonga police not expecting trouble

Tonga's Commissioner of Police believes there will be no major difficulties during today's general election.

However Grant O'Fee says officers are prepared to move in at any time, if problems do arise.

He told Tonga broadcasting that there are roughly 200 officers working today at various polling stations.

Commissioner O'Fee says there is a command centre in Nuku'alofa and a public order management team.

He says officers have been deployed to the outer islands to help make up the numbers, and firemen have also been requested to help out to.

The Commissioner emphasized that the officers deployed today are well trained.
