Papua New Guinea's Hela provincial government is to spend 20 million US dollars in the Komo and Hides areas over the next three years.

Hela Governor Anderson Agiru says the money will come from development grants and that it is well deserved.

The National reports Mr Agiru is urging the national government to match the provincial government kina for kina over that period on development.

The commitment comes as the province tries to cope with ongoing tribal violence.

The local police commander says the situation is quiet but tense and fighting could break out at any time.
