Discrimination feared in CNMI murder probe

3:37 pm on 13 November 2014

Relatives of two Chinese farmers murdered in the Northern Marianas have accused police of not giving priority to the case.

The two farmers were found dead in Koblerville two weeks ago - the third double homicide involving Chinese nationals on Saipan in less than two years

The police have consolidated the three cases into one single investigation, and have announced that they are speaking to a person of interest.

However, our correspondent, Mark Rabago, says there is a feeling within the Chinese community that the three cases have not been prioritised by the Department of Public Safety.

"They say they are Chinese and that there could be some discrimination here. But the police say there are on top of the case and finding the murderers of these people."

The DPS commissioner, James Deleon Guerrero, says the DPS wants to continue its dialogue with the Chinese community.
