1:51 pm on 6 November 2014

Tribal fighting in Hela Province in the Papua New Guinea Highlands has claimed at least four lives and police have called for reinforcements.

The Post Courier reports four men were killed in two separate ambushes outside Tari on Tuesday.

It says tensions were high in the LNG town on Wednesday with the Hela provincial police commander Mark Yangen appealing to headquarters for reinforcements, saying his manpower was stretched to the limit.

The latest clash involves members of the Paipeli and Linapini tribes.
