The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands says it will fly in officers from participating countries to bolster security operations for the elections on November the 19th.
The mission which had significantly reduced its policing operation to about 150 personnel will be boosted by 90 officers.
The Solomon Islands police commissioner, Frank Prendergast, says the additional numbers are welcome.
" We really see the elections and the election security as a combined responsibility of the RSIPF [Royal Solomon Islands Police Force ] and the broader community. And, you know, we are looking for the co-operation of the community in ensuring that things go peacefully and people get to vote freely."
Commissioner Prendergast says his officers will be deployed from next week with about 180 officers going to the provinces for polling day.
After the election the plan is to have increased numbers in the capital, Honiara.
