Plans to restore American Samoa cable car

Tourism authorities in American Samoa say they hope reviving a defunct cable car will boost the industry.

The government has agreed to look into the feasibility of restoring the cable car across Pago Pago harbour.

The director of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau, David Vaeafe, says the restoration would be part of a bigger tourism master plan.

"You're building the cable car, and then having a zipline coming back. So offering an additonal, sort of, adventure, or excursion as such. But a whole lot of other services like restaurants, a visitors centre and so forth, on top of a mountain, and down below. It was a popular tourist attraction, it will be a popular tourist attraction again."
