Papua New Guinea MP Francis Potape has been found guilty of conspiracy and misappropriating over US$100,000 of state money.

A court found the Komo-Margarima MP guilty of three charges, relating to an incident in 2010 where his joint district planning and budget priorities committee passed a resolution to pay themselves outstanding sitting, transport and accommodation allowances.

Potape received 60 thousand kina, while other committee members received 30 thousand.

The Post Courier reports that the committee is not allowed to authorise such payments.
