Police in French Polynesia have seized 800 cannabis plants after reportedly being intrigued by strong smells in Pirae near Papeete.

They say two people have been arrested.

The police say once they became suspicious about the smell, they observed the house in question around the clock.

They say the premises used to grow cannabis were surrounded by barbed wire and equipped with surveillance cameras.

In the raid, the police found cannabis worth about 12,000 US dollars
