Telecommunications company Digicel is in talks with Vanuatu's Prime Minister about the establishment of 54 channels of mobile TV in Vanuatu.

Prime Minister Joe Natuman met with Digicel's Chairman Denis O'Brien this week in Samoa to discuss a number of investment plans to help Vanuatu fulfill its communications needs.

Mr O'Brien has praised the government for recognizing Information and Communication Technologies or ICT as an enabler for development.

He says there's been rapid progress in the ICT sector in the short period since the government moved to liberalize the sector in 2006.

Mr O'Brien says Digicel will also help to connect schools to the internet and install computer labs open to the community, provide tablets for students, and help set up Internet cafés in rural areas.
