Solomons police still need training

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force say some officers still need more training in order to regain public confidence.

There has been public criticism about some policemen and women failing to attend to complaints about criminal activities in various communities especially in the capital, Honiara.

Spokespersons for RAMSI's Participating Police Force and local police say training to upgrade officers' skills to quell undesirable activities and other law and order problems is a must.

They say they will now accept suggestions from the public about what areas they feel need to be improved.

Our correspondent says local police have not fully regained public confidence since it collapsed during the ethnic uprising more than a decade ago.
