Fighting could end Tonga school rugby season

8:00 pm on 11 August 2014

The future of Tonga's inter-college rugby season is under threat after police had to intervene in a brawl between the supporters of two teams last Friday.

Radio Tonga reports that a Senior A's match between Liahona High School and Apifo'ou College was called off after supporters of the two sides marched onto the field and disturbed the game.

The acting assistant police commissioner, Tevita Fifita, says no arrests were made, but police will be meeting with the Tonga Secondary Schools' Principals Association about whether to cancel the season.
