Police in Tonga have confirmed that three Tongan men found at Oneata in Fiji's Lau Group last Friday are the missing Ha'apai fishermen.

Matangi Tonga reports police were able to talk to one of them, Sione Filipe Taulafo, on Saturday and he said they are safe and well.

The men are still on Oneata Island waiting to be transported some time this week to Lakeba Island where a Fiji police rescue team would be waiting to take them to Suva.

On Friday, police in Nuku'alofa were notified by their Fiji counterparts that three men, thought to be Tongans, were found swimming near Oneata.

The trio had not been seen since early on the morning of July the 30th when they left Nomuka in Ha'apai on a fishing trip, using a six metre boat.
