The French president has been urged to make the French High Commissioner in French Polynesia apply the law and dismiss the territory's president, Gaston Flosse.
The call has been made by a former assembly president Jacqui Drollet in an open letter to Francois Hollande.
Mr Drollet says people don't want to believe that Mr Hollande could have approved the behaviour of the High Commissioner, Lionel Beffre, who refuses to serve Flosse the sentence he was given by France's highest court last week.
Although Flosse never received the document, Mr Beffre accepted a request by Flosse for a presidential pardon.
Flosse has maintained his innocence and his office claims that the judiciary ignores the will of the people who elected him.
The French justice minister, Christiane Taubira, is reportedly examining Flosse's application and is said to make a recommendation soon.
The protection given to Flosse has been criticised, with one opposition politician saying the French action has placed Tahiti in a banana republic.
