The Supreme Court in Papua New Guinea has granted the Finance Minister, James Marape, an interim injunction to stop police from arresting him.
The Post Courier reports that the ruling effectively means police and other agencies, like Task Force Sweep, are temporarily stopped from arresting or questioning Mr Marape in relation to the Paul Paraka corruption case.
In granting Mr Marape's application, the judges noted a number of issues that have arisen as a result of the Police Commissioner, Geoffrey Vaki, being charged with abuse of office and of perverting the course of justice.
They found that the police force is divided and lacking in integrity and reputation and is unable to be controlled by the police commissioner.
As a result, the judges ruled that there is more than a likelihood that Mr Marape will be subject to an arrest that is unlawful or improper.
