Lawyers for the Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister Peter O'Neill have successfully sought a court stay order on an arrest warrant issued for him last month.

The arrest warrant was issued regarding Mr O'Neill's role in the allegedly illegal payment of 30 US million dollars to a law firm.

In a separate case, lawyers for Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki, seeking the arrest warrant to be set aside, have been referred to the Supreme Court pending a judicial review.

The National court judge, Les Gavara-Nanu said that constitutional questions have arisen that can only be addressed at the Supreme Court level.
