PNG social media warning

3:46 pm on 18 July 2014

Papua New Guinea's Minister of Communications and Information Technology has issued a public warning about a threat of radicalism on social media.

The newspaper, The National, reports Jim Miringtoro as warning people to be aware of scams, lies and other misleading information appearing on some social media sites.

Mr Miringtoro says while there are credible commentators and some interesting debate on social media, there are a number of radical activists who seek to cause public distress.

He feels some social media sites have become places where radicals try to spread lies, cause distress and harm reputations.
