Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is turning his attention to helping with education in American Samoa.

The Troy and Theodora Polamalu Foundation sponsored a seminar this week called Academic and Life Skill Training for school counsellors, teachers and administrators in the territory.

Mrs Polamalu says, after reviewing their first two athletics camps, they have decided to place more emphasis on education and to widen their reach to students of all ages in the territory.

She says while their camp will still have an athletics component, they want students to start thinking at an early age about life skills and careers.

Mrs Polamalu says the foundation will offer incentives to educators, counselors and facilitators who make an impact on students.

"It's just some added points to the curriculum to start getting children to think about what skills you will need as you continue to develop and continue to succeed through school. We wanted to incentive teachers and faculty members so we want to start giving the teachers grants out for their school that really will benefit and show that when you are completing the training process with our facilitators, who are there now in American Samoa, then we wanted to first give the teachers a grant."
