Tongan attacked in Samoa cared for by NGO

2:21 pm on 11 June 2014

Samoa's Victim Support Group has put under its care a Tongan woman who was allegedly attacked by her machete wielding husband when she was discharged from hospital.

The man has this week appeared in court on charges of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm but he is seeking legal aid before entering a plea on the 23rd of June.

He is in police custody.

The Victim Support Group's president Lina Chang, says the Tongan woman is slowly recovering but the scars on her head, face, arms and legs would remain with her forever.

The organisation says it is thankful for the assistance offered the victims by the local Tongan community and the public.
