NZ interested in growing beef trade with PNG

New Zealand has signalled interest in expanding beef trade with Papua New Guinea.

The newspaper, The National, reports New Zealand's high commissioner to PNG Tony Fautua saying trade levels between the two countries are good but that they could be expanded significantly.

New Zealand's exports to PNG were worth US$205 million in the year ended 2012, with sheep meat contributing the most.

Mr Fautua says there are plenty of opportunities for beef trade to increase too.

It's unclear if he meant that PNG beef could be exported to New Zealand.
