Solomon Island churches are being urged to take a stronger stand against corruption and other important issues affecting their people.

In opening a three-day church conference in Honiara, the Church of Melanesia Archbishop David Vunagi says corruption has had a paralysing impact on people's ability to trust.

He says in Solomon Islands corruption has taken precedence over normal administrative practice.

Archbishop Vunagi also raised concern about the ecological damage caused by logging.

He has challenged the church leaders to speak out about the destructive impacts of irresponsible development practices and policies that are promoted by governments.
