The Fiji government says China is ready to ship nearly half a million US dollars worth of police and law enforcement equipment to Fiji for the country's elections.

It says other forms of assistance are also being considered.

The announcement comes during a visit to Fiji by a senior Chinese diplomat Du Qiwen.

Mr Du is the newly-appointed Chinese Special Envoy to the China-Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue.

The Fiji government says the two countries are also seeking ways to encourage more Chinese investors to invest in Fiji and increase exports from Fiji to China.

Cooperation in the aviation sector is also being discussed to boost tourism from China and China is also considering more help towards sustainable development, energy security, climate change and marine conservation.
