Floods delay Solomon Islands voter registration

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission has extended its Biometric Voter Registration process because of the recent floods.

The 14-day extension was given after the Commission was forced to suspend registration during the recent flash floods.

The Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu says despite the delay elections will go ahead as planned and an official election date will be decided by the Governor General once all registrations are completed on May the 2nd.

Biometric Voter Registration is being introduced in Solomon Islands with the aim of reducing political interference and corruption in the election process.
