Sport: Hunters coach says first loss a good thing

The Papua New Guinea Hunters rugby league coach Michael Marum says their first defeat of the season is a reality check for players.

The Hunters three match winning streak in the Queensland Cup came to an end against the Northern Pride on Saturday in a top of the table clash in Kokopo.

Michael Marum says the Hunters defended well considering they didn't have much of the ball.

He says a loss can be a good way to refocus a team.

"That's one of the main things we were worried about - three wins and then the players got a bit - but we've always been telling them not to listen to much people around and outside of us. I think the loss is good for us so we can put their heads back down and keep working hard at training and during each game".

The Hunters are away from home this weekend at the Easts Tigers.
