PNG Opposition calls for govt leadership over student boycott

4:29 pm on 12 March 2014

The Papua New Guinea Opposition is demanding that a report by former judge Mark Sevua into the University of Technology be tabled and implemented to quell the latest student uprising there.

Opposition Leader Belden Namah says the situation, with the students refusing to go to classes, is getting out of hand.

He says the Sevua Report must be made public and the people need to know the resolutions and recommendations made in it.

Mr Namah says a statement by the new Higher Education Minister Delilah Gore that she will not listen to the students is not the way to solve the problem.

He says the Government has to show leadership and address it.
