Vanuatu's parliament is due to meet tomorrow again for a no confidence vote in the government of Moana Carcasses after the house failed to muster a quorum on Monday.
To maintain power, Mr Carcasses has tried to entice politicians from the rival camp with ministerial portfolios to switch sides.
This comes after three of his ministers left the ruling coalition to give the opposition bloc a majority.
There is speculation that the prime minister might resign and hand over the leadership to his deputy, Edward Natapei.
The opposition camp reportedly considers to put forward a former minister, Marcellino Pipite, as a possible prime minister.
